Mentor timeline milestones

These are 48 hours (2 days) before the official deadlines:

  • 2026-04-19T18:00:00Z: Project selections due by mentors (Official Google deadline is April 21).
  • 2026-07-08T18:00:00Z: Mentors’ mid-term evaluations due (Official Google deadline is July 10).
  • 2026-08-29T18:00:00Z: Mentors’ final evaluations due (Official Google deadline is August 31).

Next Steps for Mentors

  1. Get yourselves signed up as mentors ASAP on the GSoC website. Contact @r0bby if you need an invite.
  2. Please review the GSoC Mentor’s Manual as it goes over everything you need to do and how to evaluate proposals.
  3. Refine your project descriptions and be ready to respond to student questions in a timely manner. There is a feedback loop that should happen. The best contributors will be refining their proposals over time.
  4. During the program, ALL communication must be public. Failure to do so will not end well. We will be detailing how violations will be handled a bit later. This will, however, be strictly enforced, but each case will be given consideration as to whether or not private communication was necessary.
  5. Double-check and make sure you’re in the @mentors groups here on the forums. If not, send a direct message to @mentors and let us know!

Next steps for prospective contributors

  1. Introduce yourself to us. Explain your background and what you like to do.
  2. Review the GSoC Student/Contributor Manual as it covers any questions you may have.
  3. Please keep your discussion and questions within the threads we have set up for each project. If you are proposing another project, please make a new thread; otherwise, DO NOT create new threads.
  4. Expect to refine your proposal over time. We are evaluating you based on the proposal. You have a limited amount of time to complete your project, so you need to have a reasonable timeline defined.
  5. Start your proposal early; don’t wait until the last minute, as it rarely ends well.
  6. You may use this thread for questions not directly related to a specific project.

My name is Tomás Guija, and I am a Computer Vision Researcher currently working at the Medical Imaging Lab PROMISE at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Spain. I would like to submit a new project proposal as a potential contributor for GSoC 2026.

Before opening a new thread, I wanted to ask whether there are any specific guidelines or formats I should follow when preparing the proposal — for example, particular information to include or specific sections that need to be addressed.

Thank you very much in advance!

Best regards, Tomás Guija

Have you read the resources I linked?

I just saw the thread published by @Debasmita about new project proposaals, so no problem. I will further explore your proposed ideas list. Thank you.

It’d be safest to stick to our existing ideas as they’re not haphazard.

You risk a lot by proposing your own idea without finding at least two mentors who can oversee the project.

Also, we’re not the final say, Google is.
