Hello, Everyone.
My name is Hirday Gupta and I am currently a High School senior(Year 12) in Mumbai, India and am planning to enroll at the University of Illinois this fall! I am fairly new to the open-source community and have always wanted to learn about the standard practices that go into industry-level code.
Healthcare has always been close to my and LibreHealth’s promise of Healthcare for all deeply resonates with me, especially since I am from a developing country myself. I absolutely love the idea of making lives better using code.
My skills include: Java, iOS Development with Swift, Web development using HTML, CSS(Bootstrap), JavaScript(jQuery), MySQL, PHP stack as well as Python and C++. (Arduino development and robotics is another passion of mine)
You can find me on Github at: HirdayGupta (Hirday Gupta) · GitHub where I have projects in many of these languages.
I have written a couple of open-source libraries before, one of which has over 1200 downloads on SourceForge (to help JAVA and the Arduino communicate easily over Serial) and one that I am in the process of making available for download (A PHP library that simplifies the user sign-up process).
However, these projects have only been individual and I have never been part of an open-source community as diverse and large as this. I plan to spend the next few weeks studying and understanding LibreHealth’s EHR as well as familiarizing myself with the Community Guidelines for this forum as I am new here and hope to contribute positively.
I would like to end my introduction with a question for @r0bby or any other mentor on this thread.
LibreHealth’s GSOC ‘How to Work With Us’ page says: “You’ll also need to make at least one code contribution by the time you submit your proposal, so we’ll help you with that requirement.”
I was wondering how I would be able to make this code contribution, and where would I be able to find such guidance in the future. (Apologies if this is a stupid question, I am extremely new here).
