Dr. Bucher is a co-investigator for Kenya in the Global Network for Women’s and Children’s Health Research, a multi-site consortium dedicated to the investigation and implementation of strategies to improve maternal-neonatal-child health (MNCH) in resource-limited settings. Dr. Bucher serves as a US-based HBS Country Mentor to Kenya on behalf of the American Academy of Pediatrics for Helping Babies Survive programs: Helping Babies Breathe, Essential Care for Every Baby, and Essential Care for Small Babies. She is an International Master Trainer for the 3 programs. Other areas of focus include the development of “middle-tech” solutions, such as use of mobile phones and novel biomedical devices, to support implementation of newborn care initiatives. Dr. Bucher is particularly interested in how ICT/BME solutions can be utilized in resource-limited areas to: (1) profoundly reduce morbidity and mortality from common underlying causes of newborn death; (2) build sustainable health worker capacity; and (3) support international public-private collaboration. The HBB data collection app, “mHBB,” developed by her team, was featured as a case study in the ASH mHealth compendium volume, and is currently linked to the Kenya Digital Health Dashboard from HealthEnabled. http://www.healthenabled.org/index.php/healthe-africa/country-dashboards/kenya-digital-health-dashboard
