We have been [accepted into Google Summer of Code 2026 (GSoC)](https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/programs/2026/organizations/librehealth)!!!

The [timeline](https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/timeline) is as follows (we have no control over this aspect; Google sets the timeline, not us):

- ~~**2026-02-19T18:00:00Z** : Google announces the list of accepted mentoring organizations.~~
- **2026-03-16T18:00:00Z → 2026-03-31T18:00:00Z:** Applicants register & submit applications to organizations no later than **2026-03-31T18:00:00Z,** **no exceptions are made**.
- **2026-04-30T18:00:00Z** : Accepted projects announced; participants & mentors start planning their projects and milestones.
- **2026-05-25T00:00:00Z:** Participants begin work on their Google Summer of Code projects.
- **2026-07-06T18:00:00Z → 2026-07-10T18:00:00Z** : Phase 1 (Mid-term) evaluations provided to Google.
- **2026-08-17T00:00:00Z → 2026-08-24T18:00:00Z** : Final evaluations provided by **participants** to Google.
- **2026-08-24T18:00:00Z → 2026-08-31T18:00:00Z** : Final evaluations provided by **mentors** to Google.
- **2026-08-24T00:00:00Z → 2026-11-02T18:00:00Z** : GSoC contributors with extended timelines continue coding.
- **2026-11-02T18:00:00Z** : Final date for all GSoC contributors to submit their final work product.
- **2026-11-09T18:00:00Z** : Final date for mentors to submit evaluations for GSoC contributor projects with extended deadlines.

**Note** : LibreHealth sets a soft deadline of **48 hours** prior to the above deadlines by Google. This is done in an effort to ensure that we meet all the timeline milestones.

# Mentor [timeline](https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/timeline) milestones

These are 48 hours (2 days) before the official deadlines:

- **2026-04-19T18:00:00Z** : Project selections due by mentors (Official Google deadline is April 21).
- **2026-07-08T18:00:00Z** : Mentors’ mid-term evaluations due (Official Google deadline is July 10).
- **2026-08-29T18:00:00Z** : Mentors’ final evaluations due (Official Google deadline is August 31).

# Next Steps for Mentors

1. Get yourselves signed up as mentors ASAP on the [GSoC website](https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/). Contact @r0bby if you need an invite.
2. Please review the [GSoC Mentor’s Manual](http://archive.flossmanuals.net/gsocmentoring/) as it goes over everything you need to do and how to evaluate proposals.
3. Refine your project descriptions and be ready to respond to student questions in a timely manner. There is a feedback loop that should happen. The best contributors will be refining their proposals over time.
4. During the program, _ **ALL** _ **communication must be public. Failure to do so will not end well**. We will be detailing how violations will be handled a bit later. This will, however, be strictly enforced, but each case will be given consideration as to whether or not private communication was necessary.
5. Double-check and make sure you’re in the [@mentors](https://forums.librehealth.io/groups/mentors) groups here on the forums. If not, send a direct message to [@mentors](https://forums.librehealth.io/groups/mentors) and let us know!

# Next steps for prospective contributors

1. [Introduce yourself](https://forums.librehealth.io/t/meet-the-community-introduce-yourself-here/45) to us. Explain your background and what you like to do.
2. Review the [GSoC Student/Contributor Manual](https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/resources/manual) as it covers any questions you may have.
3. Please keep your discussion and questions within the [threads we have set up for each project](https://forums.librehealth.io/tags/c/community/gsoc/gsoc2026-project). If you are proposing another project, please make a new thread; otherwise, _ **DO NOT** _ create new threads.
4. Expect to refine your proposal over time. We are evaluating you based on the proposal. You have a limited amount of time to complete your project, so you need to have a reasonable timeline defined.
5. Start your proposal early; don’t wait until the last minute, as it rarely ends well.
6. You may use this thread for questions not directly related to a specific project.

My name is Tomás Guija, and I am a Computer Vision Researcher currently working at the Medical Imaging Lab PROMISE at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Spain. I would like to submit a new project proposal as a potential contributor for GSoC 2026.

Before opening a new thread, I wanted to ask whether there are any specific guidelines or formats I should follow when preparing the proposal — for example, particular information to include or specific sections that need to be addressed.

Thank you very much in advance!

Best regards, Tomás Guija

I just saw the thread published by @Debasmita about new project proposaals, so no problem. I will further explore your proposed ideas list. Thank you.

It’d be safest to stick to our existing ideas as they’re not haphazard.

You risk a lot by proposing your own idea without finding at least two mentors who can oversee the project.

Also, we’re not the final say, Google is.

Hi, could I please get the link for LibreHealth’s Discord? I’ve been searching for it, but couldn’t find it.

Hello, I’m working on my proposal , and I would like some suggestions and insights from the mentors. For that , can I ask the mentors in the LibreHealth Forum’s Chat , or should I just comment and mention the mentors under the project thread with the docs link?
