If I understand the question correctly, here’s how to attribute an upstream CC-licensed work, from which you create a derivative CC licensed work:
This work, “New Document”, was adapted from “Upstream Document” by Upstream Author, used under the Creative Commons 4.0 International Attribution License (CC BY 4.0). “New Document” is licensed under the Creative Commons 4.0 International Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) by New Author.
That said, did I miss the rationale for CC BY-NC-SA versus something more permissive?
